RE: Project work with The Symphonic Brass of London

Over the past year, the Bromley Music Hub, led by Bromley Youth Music Trust, has developed a high quality relationship with The Symphonic Brass of London.

We have collaborated on several major projects/events, all with very clear goals that we developed together.

“inspiring young musicians”

“developing community support for music”

The main thread being: “high quality teaching and musicianship”.

We have worked with a variety of ensembles including their Brass Quintet, Brass Dectet and Large Brass Ensemble (over 20 players).

Each ensemble performed “side by side” with our young musicians and in addition provided workshop/master-class sessions and direct detailed rehearsal of BYMT and school based brass ensembles.

To have the level raised to “Professional Level” has been inspiring for our teachers as well as the young musicians and of course the community at large who have attended performances.

I strongly believe that the partnership goes both ways, the musicians in The Symphonic Brass of London have also developed their skills in teaching pedagogy and understanding of school contexts and needs, as we have developed this partnership.

I think the latter point is essential and the most impressive aspect of working with this professional group is their clear focus on education and willingness to listen to the needs of the Music Hub, rather than simply creating something generic that may or may not work.

In short, I would recommend The Symphonic Brass of London without reservation and feel that they have really added value to music making in Bromley and will continue to do so.

The Symphonic Brass of London brought their energy, enthusiasm and musical excellence to Chichester Music Centre for a morning of rehearsing on Saturday 13 June 2015 and welcomed our Chichester Youth Symphonic Brass to perform with them in concert in one of our most prestigious churches the following Friday.

The SBoL comprises good humoured, approachable, knowledgeable and virtuosic musicians making for an incredibly valuable experience for our students and I am delighted to welcome them back to Chichester this year. Our students remain inspired; their commitment and performance standard has soared.

Our parents loved everything about the SBoL and the combined concert: our band was given a solo spot, played with the pros and heard the pros performing close-up!

SBoL are a truly professional outfit; very well organised, dependable, high quality and easy to work with. Work with them if you can!

It is a great pleasure for me to introduce and recommend The Symphonic Brass of London (SBL) seeking collaboration with your institution to carry out pedagogical projects. In January 2014, members of this exceptional ensemble offered a brass chamber music project and combined concert at the Department of Music, Dance and Drama, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree students who participated in this project reported that the workshops were remarkable both for the high academic level of the project and the fine and relaxed atmosphere created by the kind and generous members of the SBL. The final concert, performed by our students and the SBL at the prestigious Sparebanken Assembly Hall as part of the Northern Lights Festival, was considered as one of the highlights of the academic year. I feel obliged to mention also the excellent concert The Symphonic Brass of London gave as part of the festival program prior to the project.

It is also a pleasure to mention that the artistic qualities of the ensemble are complemented by effective, dependable and punctual administrative work, which makes it a delightful experience to collaborate with The Symphonic Brass of London.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further details.
